Maël Goldwaser has lived in Toulouse since 2010, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and a State Degree for teaching traditional music. After attending Manolo Sanlúcar’s theoretical classes, he began a Master’s Degree in musicology to further develop his own understanding of Flamenco. He took his Master’s Degree after an Erasmus year at the ESMUC in Barcelona. His research thesis dealt with the relationship between Manolo Sanlúcar’s theoretical and musical thinking.
In addition to this academic background, he studied the Flamenco guitar with a number of well-known teachers in France (Kiko Ruiz, Vicente Pradal) and in Spain (Manolo Sanlúcar, Serranito, José Antonio Rodríguez, Juan Manuel Cañizares). In 2017, accompanied by the guitarist José Antonio Rodríguez, Maël renewed his solo recital and created the current version of this concert. In 2019, he founded a duet with the accordeonist Arthur Bacon. Beyond his personal projects, Maël works with artists coming from various other musical and artistic milieux : he explores the possibilities of improvisation with the danser Meritxell Martín Clavo, accompanies the poetess Blanca Haddad in the performance « Ay Chavela », works on free improvisation with musicians of various horizons, and so forth.
